Kris Allen's New Single

Sorry I'm not sorry that I love all things American Idol. So anyway, season 8 champ Kris Allen (who I love) announced via twitter that his new single will be "Alright with Me" a song that I just happen to, you guessed it, LOVE. Here is an awesome live version of the song, enjoy!

In other American Idol news...

So with all this talk about the new judges (and J Lo's sparkly jumpsuit) we all seem to have forgotten who Idol is really about...the contestants! (Remember them?)

Crystal Bowersox is reportedly engaged to musician Brian Walker. Interesting, seeing as she and her previous boyfriend broke up on the night of the finale...They will apparently wed next month. Obviously she's gone more Hollywood than anyone thought she would...

Also, remember Lee Dewyze, that guy who won last season? Probably not, but I do. Here is a video of him singing a brand new song called Only Dreaming last night at his first post-Idol solo concert. Check it out, it's pretty good.

Also, Kris Allen got to lead the Hog call at the Alabama/Arkansas game. Awesome.(I guess)

Official Announcment of American Idol Judges Today!

Update: In the most anticlimactic announcement ever...the new American Idol judge are: Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Oh, and Randy kept his job. Yay?

There is a press conference being held at 1:00 today announcing the new judges panel for Idol. While I'm pretty sure we all know who it's going to be, I will be watching and updating anyway. :)

Kara Dioguardi Officially Out on Idol

Well, it's been awhile since I've posted about the annoying, never-ending rumors regarding the American Idol judging panel. While everyone pretty much knew it was going to come down to Randy Jackson, J Lo and Steven Tyler, some of us (AKA Me) still held out hope. As a long-time (and completely obsessive) Idol fan, this pisses me off. Yes, Kara was annoying and is responsible for the terrible "song" No Boundaries, but she brought perspective to the panel that they no longer will have.

J Lo was a mentor on the show back in season 6, and yes she did a fine job there, but she made no critiques! She is not a replacement for Kara, she will be more like Ellen and that is NOT what they need! That is why Ellen left! And Steven Tyler as Simon's replacement? Ugh. Here's one reason why that is a bad idea:

And that was the second time. My ideal panel? Randy, Kara and Harry Connick Jr. (Shania Twain would have been my pick for a 4th judge if they stuck to that.) Will I still watch? Yes. Will I complain about how terrible the judging is? Yes.

8.11 Quickies

-Former American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino has been hospitalized due to an overdose! No Tasia! There has been a lot of controversy surrounded Fantasia recently, as she has been accused of having an affair with a married man AND making a sex tape with him. Apparently the pressure became too much for her :( On the plus side, she is stable, but still recovering.

-Steve Slater, the JetBlue flight attendant who made national news after his dramatic resignation has been released on bail. Also, his least favorite thing about his job was people who tried to bring too many bags on as their carry-on luggage. I can totally empathize, that is my lease favorite thing about flying as well!

-Levi Johnston is planning to run for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska and have a reality show about it! What will they think of next?

-Finally, this Toledo, Ohio woman was PISSED that she didn't get her McNuggets:

8.4 Quickies

-The American Idol auditions in New Jersey yesterday had over 17,000 people show up! Obviously the pandemonium going on behind the scenes is having no effect on first round auditions. For those who don't know, the first round "cattle-call" auditions are held in front of producers, who then choose the singers that will audition in front of the judges in the fall. So really, it doesn't matter that the judges are not in place yet.

-Wyclef Jean, who was born in Haiti, has announced that he is going to run for president of Haiti. In other news, I was born in Ohio and I am going to run for governor.

-Instead of blogging Project Runway, I am just going to discuss the person who gets voted off each week. I know I am super late this week but I also was super late watching it. I was surprised that McKell was the one who got voted off last week. I know her styling was terrible (really? A curly mohawk? And let's not even talk about that bag), but in my opinion her dress was a lot better than some of the unfinished/God awful (I'm looking at you Casanova) things that came down that runway. Oh well, on to the next!

-Also, I won't be watching The Rachel Zoe project because the best part about that show, aka Team TaylorandBrad is without one of its key members. No fighting? No tension? What is this? #notinterested #butistillloveyoubrad

Ellen resigns from Idol!

In the midst of all the rumors about who will replace Simon Cowell (Fox is hoping to make the announcement on Monday), Ellen Degeneres has announced that she is leaving the show.

In the statement she released via her website, Ellen stated:
"A couple months ago, I let FOX and the "American Idol" producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on "Idol" and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be."

So is this why Idol producers have been talking to Jessica Simpson? Are Randy and Kara next? WHATS GOING ONNNNNNNNNNN

Update
: Now J Lo is rumored to be replacing Ellen. I repeat WHATS GOING ONNNNNNNNN. #savekaradioguardi

Now they are saying that Kara Dioguardi is fired and they will go back to a 3 judge panel with Randy, J Lo and...Steven Tyler?! This is not okay. Just because they are big named celebrities doesn't mean they will be good judges! Kara may be annoying at times, but she knows what she is talking about! She made major improvements from season 8 to season 9 and should still be there! Outrageous!

So...I went to the American Idol concert.

Okay, I love American Idol. I am not embarrassed to admit that. I. Love. That. Show. However, going to an American Idol concert? I was unsure about. My friend Abbey was brave (and nice!!) enough to come with, since no one else wanted to go. No seriously, the entire upper bowl was empty and there were empty seats around us. Also, we got our tickets approximately 2 months after they went on sale and we were still sitting in the 7th row of the middle floor section....but I digress. I was fully prepared to make snarky comments about the concert (I had even already thought of a snarky title!), but dare I say, I actually enjoyed myself? The concert actually had a lot of bright spots (Crystal Bowersox! You are amazing!!!) So now...I will give my opinion on each performer!

Didi Benami

Didi, you are way more talented than a lot of the other contestants on this show, but unfortunately you had to go first. I didn't know the first song she sang, but she sounded nice! And I loved her boots! I want them! Her second song was "Terrified" which she sang on the show. It was an awesome performance, but didn't have a ton of energy. I felt bad for her because everyone sat during her set. And just like that, she was off the stage.

Andrew Garcia

AKA the guy who sang "Straight Up" and do you what he did? Came out and sang "Straight Up." Well played, Andrew Garcia, well played. He also sang Maroon 5's "Sunday Morning" which I actually liked better. Just as he got the crowd going...his set was over. (Seriously...it felt like these people were on stage for 30 seconds.)

Katie Stevens

Ah Katie Stevens, I don't know why, but you were my least favorite contestant this season. And coming out in that God-awful outfit did not help. I have absolutely no idea what her first song was...but then something magical happened. She broke out into "Fighter", only the greatest Christina Aguilera song there ever was. You are granted a reprieve for that one, Katie, but I will never forgive your outfit choice.

Tim Urban

Timmy Urban, you sounded terrible. Both "Better Days" by The Goo Goo Dolls and "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay are not songs you should sing. Smartly, though, he left the top buttons on his shirt undone, so I don't think anyone else noticed how terrible his performances were. You're still adorable, buddy!

Siobhan Magnus

Siobhan Magnus confuses me. I am not quite sure why this girl was on American Idol. She is kind of the anti-American Idol, in her tutu and combat boots. However, I LOVED her set. I hated when she would scream on Idol, but her "glory note" at the end of "Paint it Black" was actually very effective. Then she sang No Doubt's "Spiderwebs"!!! (AKA my favorite song from ages 9-16, no big deal.) Her last song was a Muse song (again, what is this girl doing on Idol?), which again was actually really good!

Aaron Kelly

Definitely the biggest surprise of the show! Maybe I am biased, because I am a big fan of country music and he sang 3 country songs, but I thought he was one of the best of the night. Abbey and I referred to him as "the kindergartner they let on the show" when Idol was on, but he was like a real, live grown-up at the show! Keith Urban's "Somebody Like You", the Lonestar version of "Walking in Memphis" and Rascal Flatt's "Fast Cars and Freedom" were all excellent. Well done, lad.

After this, all those who had already performed came out to sing "The Climb", which we found hilarious because we had just been talking about how that song is terrible. Although, Katie Stevens was finally wearing an age appropriate outfit, so there's that. Also, I don't have a picture of this because I was sitting too close to the stage to get a shot of the whole group. Tough life, I know. Next we intermission, yipee!!

Mike Lynche

Oh Big Mike, you cheeseball you. He came out to the beginning of Maxwell's "This Woman's Work" and got on one knee front and center. Without Kara Dioguardi there to cry, it just wasn't the same. He then sang Indis Aria's "Ready For Love" which sounded nice, but was too low key. However, breaking out into "My Love" got my attention again. I do love me some JT. However, Big Mike as a rapper? No thanks.

Casey James

Casey's set was awesome, but we knew it would be. His guitar playing is superb, and it's a shame that he was encouraged to downplay that during the show. All of his songs were great, his hair looked great, everything was great great great. Then Big Mike came back out and they sang "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?", also great (but you already knew I would say that)

Crystal Bowersox (!!)

Crystal Bowersox, homegrown right here in Ohio. The crowd went crazy for her, as we Ohioians usually do when we see anything from Ohio (or whenever anyone says "O-H" as she smartly did). I don't feel like I need to write about how amazing she was because I think that is just a given. Her four songs (4 Non Blond's "What's Up" Melissa Etheridge's "Come to my Window" Patti Griffin's "Up to the Mountain" and Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart") were all perfect for her. The crowd was into it the entire time and she seemed genuinely taken aback by the out pour of love for her, which was really sweet.

Lee Dewyze

Oh, LeeLee Tonight you made me forget about my other imaginary boyfriend, Chris L, and fall in love with you. Like Crystal, he picked 5 songs that were great for him. A completely different version of "Beautiful Day" that was MUCH better than the version he sang on the show, "Rocket Man", "Hallelujah", "Treat Her Like a Lady" and Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody". And, there was not one time during his set that he looked like he was going to throw up on stage! A vast improvement from his Idol days! It was at this point in the show when I realized that my camera also could take pretty good videos, so I took one of him. Yay technology!

Then they all came back out for the finale, aka "what we learned from watching Glee." They did a mash-up (just like Glee) of "It's My Life" (a song they did a mash-up with on Glee) and "My Life Would Suck Without You" (a song they sang on Glee.)

And that is all, because if you think I waited outside with the crazies to meet them, well, you are crazy! Thanks again to my dear friend Abbey for braving this with me!!
